New presentation for booster vaccinations in the Green Passport

In addition to the entry into force of compulsory vaccination and the shortening of the validity of the Corona vaccination after the second sting from nine to six months, there are other changes as of today.

An EU regulation leads to a new presentation of booster vaccinations in the Green Passport. Convalescents who are vaccinated twice after their infection will in future have 3/1 instead of 3/3. Johnson vaccinated people will have 2/1 after the second vaccination and 3/1 after the booster.

However, this requires a new vaccination certificate. This can be downloaded from gesundheit.gv.at or printed out from authorized agencies, such as pharmacies. New vaccination certificates issued after February 1 already contain the new information. The “old” vaccination certificates remain valid. In the case of triple-vaccinated persons who have not previously been infected, 3/3 will continue to appear in the green passport.

Open question: twice vaccinated and recovered
There is still no solution for people who have contracted the coronavirus after receiving two vaccinations. There is no separate certificate for them. The Ministry of Health is hoping for an “early recommendation from the EU on how to adapt the certificate process.”

Those affected can show their vaccination certificate 2/2 – even if it has already expired – and their recovery certificate together and are thus considered “boosted”. However, this is only valid for six months (180 days), while third shots are valid for nine months (270 days).

Ministry: “More legal certainty
The changes now made stem from an EU implementing decision (2021/2031) on the EU Regulation on certificates. “The numbering in the vaccination certificates of convalescents and Johnson&Johnson vaccinated persons, which has been changed but is now standardized within the EU, contributes to providing affected persons with more legal certainty,” the Ministry of Health emphasized.

“In travel within the EU, it is now clear who is ‘boostered’ and can therefore travel more easily. No one suffers any disadvantage from this change, but rather a clear advantage with unambiguous legal certainty within the EU,” the Ministry of Health said.
